Nah, we didn't have to make a claim but the chances of fender benders, vandalism and theft aren't worth worrying about when you're on a special vacation like that.
I hope you have a great time!

I highly recommend getting the GPS as was mentioned earlier. Tom Tom is better than Garmin in Europe, but whichever brand you get make sure you get the Europe maps on it before you go if you're bringing your own. I was driving like an Italian maniac in under 10 minutes! No maps, no trying to read signs, just driving like the locals.
I would also spring for FULL, FULL coverage insurance from the car rental company. It cost a lot, but was well worth the peace of mind, IMO.
Feel free to pm me if you'd like more specifics.

it has been a year since i stopped attending meetings with the jehovah's witnesses.
as one year anniversary has passed, i thought it would be helpful to highlight some of the main events during this transition.
it may help others that are going through the same experience.
Congratulations on your exit TF!
Great summary. It really is helpful for those who are just starting down the path to see what may lie ahead.

so far i've managed to avoid speaking to the elders who drop by.
just wondering if they'll eventually give up in a couple years.
anyone have experience with this?.
Switching congregations is a good idea even if you don't physically change your residence.
If you have several to choose from within a 30 minute radius, select the one where you know the fewest people. Then you're just another body the elders have to answer for to Jehovah, err, the Circuit Overseer. They'll go through the bare minimum motions in our experience.

some people say "hovah' "jehoovah", etc.
or they'll say instead of jehovah's witnesses, "hovies"....etc.. do you think that it's appropriate?.
Here's how the hyenas in Lion King respond when they hear Jehovah, err, Mufasa.

Just don't go saying "Mufasa" without proper reverence!
(A "Lion King" reference for those unfamiliar.)

being a jehovah's witness at any time and at any level is a major head f*ck.
the reason is that it obscures what is important and causes you to focus on what doesn't matter.. i've moved on from my jw experience.
it's a shame that i found myself a born in, taught to focus on things that don't matter.
MATTERS: Keeping your Field Service time at or above the national average and pioneering if at all possible.
DOESN'T MATTER: How you will care for yourself in your older years since Armageddon is almost here.
Oops. Pardon my back-sliding.
Great post Jeff!

in my anger as an ex witness about 4 years ago i really wished that this would happen.
although the glaring errors, hypocrisy & downright badness of the wts was finally evident to me personally, others whom i had expeced to eventually leave the org have not.. i think it dawned on me around 1 or 2 years ago that my wife will never leave the witnesses.
having presented in both heated & reasonable debate every kind of logical argument against the religions teachings the conversations would get to the point where she would simply refuse to answer my questions.
Homo Sapiens will support cults for AT LEAST another couple hundred years, IMO.
I hope I'm wrong.

it was suggested to me by my favorite teacher, mr. mcgilvray (my science teacher.).
it is many decades later and i recently sat down with this book in great curiousity: would i appraise it nearly so highly now?.
the short and enthusiastic answer is: yes!
Well I made it about 20 pages in before I decided to have my dictionary close at hand for the rest of the book (just like Cormac McCarthy).
I'm about 100 pages into it now and I'm hooked.
Thanks Terry.
